Part-Time Work
November 21st, 2005 by rickI probably am not really allowed to go into much detail regarding the work I’ve been doing recently, but it is super interesting (well, some of it is)…
I have been working for a company named Umbria lately on nights and weekends (and so has my wonderful wife, and I believe soon to be my wife’s mother). The work we all do is relatively mindless (read blogs and classify them), but it pays decently for a part-time job, and it couldn’t have come at a better time; we sorta needed the money with Sofia on the way in the next <30 days.
The other work I do is a bit more in-depth and has to do with … gah, I don’t know what all I agreed to not mention; I should really read that document again. I can likely say it has to do with XML, pattern matching and requires me to think a good bit more than the other task does. If I had my way, I would be doing this for hours every night instead of the other work, but the other work has a higher priority. Anyway, suffice it to say that I find the current work interesting, and the market this company is in INFINITELY interesting.
There are SO many exciting things going on right now out in the tech world and I really do think I’m lucky to be able to be a part of it; I get to work with technology at a university, seeing people learn all around me and learning a lot myself. I also then get to come home and work for a small cutting-edge company who is involved in some of the most interesting research out there (imho). It really doezn’t get much better than that.
