Template Change
March 15th, 2006 by rickSomewhat longish update.. truncated/linked for those of you not on T3’s.
- So I’m a dad.
- My template changed.
- I was a coding wizard on the mud called 3Kingdoms, which I have played on and off from 1997 to the current day, but have emailed one of the lead coders to ask to be given my player character back, or not, but either way I don’t really wish to continue coding there.
- I have begun playing a game called Shards of Dalaya which is basically a free version of Everquest (although it’s been HEAVILY modified and is much better than EQ is today… much more like it was when it started). It’s an incredible game, with a lot of content, 400+ people on at peak times, and just an incredibly enjoyable experience overall.
- I have become a vegetarian along with my wife (and by default, my child). YES we’re being safe about it. YES we’re making sure we’re getting the proper nutrients. YES we have thought about the child, have consulted a physician, purchased a medically-support book on raising a vegetarian children, etc. We’ve been without ANY meat products of any sort for almost two months now (since last time my parents were in town and we went to Smoky Bones was the last time I think)… and have been without red meat since around Shiloh’s birth.
- I have lost about 15 pounds as a result of the above…. and I’m sure my cholestorol and fat intake have reduced significantly (to almost nothing).
- Shaina and I are selling our house, ASAP… moving back into the apartments we were in before because we really liked our lives a lot better when we lived there (the surroundings, the type of people, proximity to cool stuff, cost, lack of maintenence). I’m VERY MUCH looking forward to the fitness center there, and hoping that perhaps either at nights after Shiloh goes to bed, or in the morning before work (maybe get up at 5:30 instead of 6:30 or something) I’ll have a chance to workout, since that’s sorta the other part of getting healthy which has become more important now that I have a child.
- Work has been going very very very well. I really do love my job.
I guess that’s all that’s really going on. I wish I had something funny to say; I was prompted to write this when looking at a friend’s blog and seeing that his description of the link to my site was that I am the funniest man in the world; I look at my site and sadly there is NOTHING funny on here… maybe I’ll come up with something soon. It’ll happen. Stick around…

Wow. Sounds like some serious life changes.
What exactly do you do @ your job?
You ever get to go out and do anything in STL? I’ve lived here 7 months now and in need of something original to do.
congrats on the -15#s and successfully becoming a vegetarian.

Sorry about that man, I don’t even read my own blog daily… how sad is that?
I basically consult with clients and then design and build PHP web applications for them. That’s what I’m doing right this moment; however, much of my time thus far has been spent meeting with clients and then leading them through the process of reorganizing their content such that it fits into a CMS (Joomla!/Mambo atm). The goal is to get all the departments inside the school having a similar look and feel, and also to relieve some of the burden of keeping the pages updated. That is technically supposed to be the largest part of my focus, but it’s not currently what I do the most.
As far as getting out, I don’t do a whole lot here for various reasons, but currently the biggest reason is fiances. Currently we’re sorta coupon-clipping until our house sells. But even before things got tight, we go to church… we sometimes go see a movie or eat out. Neither of us are clubbers or really even drinkers anymore…
As I said in the post above, I play that SoD game with friends and some nights we get together and stay up late and play that, but that’s not really original or super interesting although we enjoy it. If you wanted to start playing and join us when we get together, that would be fine.
Let me extend the invitation to come to our church and to our men’s group (I only went last night for the first time, and it really was amazing) if you are so inclined. I hope to get involved in their baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball and other programs like that if possible, and it would certainly be something to do.
Other than computer gaming and church, I’m afraid I have little to offer as far as getting out and doing stuff. Thanks for the kudos on the weight loss and vegetarianism; it’s really not even hard any more. There was a couple-month period of craving but now I don’t even want meat on/in anything… Hope today finds you well (as well as the past 2 weeks since you commented.. heh)
