Entitlement

August 25th, 2006 by rick

I don’t post all that often, and when I do, it’s a rare post that ends up in politics… but there’s been a lot of stuff going on in the world lately, and then there has occurred an event to renew my interest in peoples’ feelings regarding entitlement (hence the title of the post).

First, about the world, and a few reasons I know the far left has gotten out of bed on the crazy side of apologetic liberal bed lately.

  1. Lieberman - This guy has voted the liberal/democrat side of 90% of the issues but one major issue he opposes his party on is their view on the war. Liberman heralds back to the days of the Reagan democrats and while I disagree with him GREATLY on some of his views, he had the cojones to stand up to his party and basically say that we’re there now, and we need to stay and fix the situation and not run away from the situation. For that, he paid the price of his party’s primary election. Kerry, Clinton and other far lefters will tell you that Lieberman has lost touch with his party… They view his disparity on this one issue as a complete shunning of the Democratic party’s stances… This is how far left we are.
  2. A Judge in Michigan deemed the NSA’s phone monitoring program unconstitutional. Despite what you may want to say about her benig far left or a Carter appointee and whatever other ways you may disparage her, the ruling is flawed in itself. Why do you think it’s the only judge thus far to make such a ruling? The people pressing the issue shopped around until they found a jurisdiction that had not made a statement or ruling on this issue, and decided to push it there. And then Ann Diggs Taylor decides that everyone else was just not seeing the truth… oh, and then she uses her ruling to poke just a little fun at the president and the fact that his father was also president at one point:

“. . There are no hereditary Kings in America and no powers not created by the Constitution. So all ‘inherent powers’ must derive from that Constitution.”

  3. The war… The anti-war sentiments, etc. I don’t care whether you disagree with us being there, think Bush didn’t have the evidence he claimed he had, etc… You have to be absolutely crazy to look at the current situation and not support our pursuit of terrorists and the governments and groups that support them. Recently I had the pleasure of listening to a Holocaust survivor named Sara Moses (if you would like to listen to this AMAZING interview, the link will be at the end of this post… this is a great interview no matter what your political leanings are) and the interview made me realize, when she said a certain thing, exactly what’s been bothering me about the anti-war sentiment in this country. There is an enemy out there who has said they want you dead based upon who you are and what you believe. They do NOT want to discuss it, they do NOT want to live together in harmony, and they will NOT (by declaration of their religous texts) accept anything but conversion, subjugation or death of the infidels. We are unclean, corrupt and the source of evil in the world… does this sound familiar to ANYONE? Anyone who has read any history about the world circa 1938-1939 will recognize those thoughts and sentiments as similar to those of Hitler… These people want us dead and nothing less… and yet we are tripping over ourselves to run to them and the international community to apologize for having caused any offense and to discuss what we can do to fix things. Why does no one understand that we are facing an enemy that will settle for nothing less than our destruction, and any ceasefires or peace treaties are going to be temporary and give them time to buildup/rebuild? This is the world we live in and our soldiers are over there fighting for our right to sit here and talk about how we shouldn’t be over there… how we shouldn’t overstep the controls of the international community… All of this negative sentiment I have for the left on this issue could be minimized if not extinguished, if SOMEONE from the left would show that they have SOME sort of plan for how to handle a withdrawl from Iraq other than “Well, we’d do what the Bush administration hasn’t done” or whatever it is they’re saying. It’s crap. But I’m not worried about it; when confronted with fact and reality the far left will not stand up. They never stand up. They’ve got no legs to stand on. They make noise and they spit and sputter but it’s always from a prone position because they are the liberal legless wonder.

This is the party and the political bias/leaning I had a couple years ago… and I am so glad I grew up.

And now on to entitlement which fits nicely into the conversation since it is very predominantly a liberal worldview. If you think you’re entitled to success, respect, or basically any other thing that other people have had to work, fight and potentially die for then you are sadly mistaken. It makes me sick when someone is expressing that things are going well for them or that they’ve made some decisions in the past that have led them down a good path and someone chimes in with “Well, some people just have things given to them like that.” Or when they make a comment like “Must be nice to have it that easy” or whatever… There are some things given that are not worked for, earned or deserved (salvation being the big one) but in many cases, what is given is often based upon prior performance, attitude, expectation of future results, or perhaps the fact that the person just doesn’t sit around whining about the things they wish were different or had been given to them.

I’m sick of people thinking they’re entitled to a certain type of job. If you have no job and are living off of the state (a.k.a. my taxes) and there is an opening at McDonalds you BETTER have an application in there. What happened to pride in the way you provide for your family? When did that get replaced with pride in the specific manner of your work? If you worked doubles at a factory doing the lowliest job and your spouse and children (had you any) were provided for, I would consider you a great American, a great provider and I would call you friend. If you are a currently-jobless ex-CEO living off of the state while there are an abundance of jobs out there that may not sustain your particular lifestyle, but would put food on the table without costing me money… I loathe you. You aren’t owed anything. You can’t find a job? Look harder. Can’t find a job to support your lifestyle? Change your lifestyle or get 2 jobs. Can’t find a job you’d be proud to tell your friends you work? Stop putting your pride in the title of your job, and make your home and the example of your life be something to be proud of.

Sorry for the rant… and I’m sure none of it has never been said before, but it was all on my mind and I REALLY needed to get it off my chest a bit.

Here’s the afore-promised link to the Sara Moses audio:

The Dave Glover Show

Personally, I think this is the best talk radio show out there and if I ever leave Saint Louis, I’ll be listening on the internet.. it’s awesome. It’s only mildly political… it’s mostly butt jokes and bathroom humor… a thing of beauty. I know the webpage is of questionable quality (hey, at least it renders in Firefox now, didn’t used to) but in the center column, near the top are 5 links to the 5 segments of audio from the interview… I would HIGHLY encourage you to listen to the interview, but not if you’re somewhere you mind crying… it’s a very very touching interview and I would hope people listen to it and realize its relevance to our current position in the world today.

Salud.

Because the ex-CEO never paid ANY taxes at all!

Yes, the exCEO should be doing absolutely everything he/she can do to get back into the swing of things, have some money saved up, etc etc, but I really hope you’re not advocating the abolishment of welfare/unemployment.

YES! The systems are exploited. However, find me a system that is free of exploitation and I’ll find you an idiot that’s making that claim. The real question to me is does the cost of the system outweigh the potential benefit?

Even AFTER the years of ‘living off the government teet’ and dumbing yourself down and all of that — and someone paying into it their entire life but never having to utilize it… I can’t help but think if I were put in a position where I absolutely *NEEDED* a form of assistance, I’d be quite thankful it was there for me and my maybe future family.

No, I’m certainly not saying it needs abolishment, but reform.

If you are disabled and literally cannot work ANY job, then you need someone to take care of you. Anything shy of that, you can work SOME sort of job, and you should be given a period to recover from your injury, cope mentally with the change in your life, and then after that you should be working.

That CEO has paid taxes, and if he gets laid off or something, that’s fine. Four years later with no job interview attempts or searches, I’m furious at them. Not that I really think former CEO’s likely have no investments or financial means, but it was just a case for argument.

The problem is, the system is broken as it is. It rewards people for not working, because if you start working and maKE SOMETHING but not enough to live on/as much as unemployment, they yank unemployment… but if you do nothing and try to do nothing, they continue to pay you. If you have kids, or have more kids, you get more money. That’s logically okay but that money is not always spent on the costs of the kids.

I think there is SOME need for welfare/unemployment certainly, but I think the current system enables people to do nothing more than stay on the system and abuse it more fully. The system is broken and needs fixing. I don’t necessarily know how to fix it, but my comment was aimed at those who are perfectly capable of working but instead choose to draw unemployment… THAT is not right.

I just printed your blog dated Aug. 25, 2006. I plan on sending to a number of people that will appreciate and, of course, a few that won’t appreciate it - namely my husband (though I love him dearly, he’s so adamantly on the left I don’t know how we ever got together in the first place???).
You have said so many things in your blog so eloquently (though you called it a rant - I call it eloquent) that I could never have formulated together so concisely but that I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE WITH!!! Great job - pardon the pun!!!

Thank you very much for the kind comment Susan. I honestly had to reread my post because it had been so long since I wrote it.

I guess now that the Democrats have control of the house and senate, with a likely, and I hate to admit it, deserved installment of a president in 2008, we will really see how their policies hold up.

Speaker of the House Pelosi and I would be hard-pressed to be further opposed on issues, but I have great hopes for her. I truly hope that she does shake things up, as there are some great sweeping changes needed, but I also hope she and other far-lefters will once and for all stand behind the president. Democrats pushed the failure and incompetence of the administration in order to become the majority party, they got what they wanted, I trust they will stop hoping for the failure in Iraq.

Many people on the far right were doom-sayers about the swing of power and I must admit the possibility of a Democratic president with Democratic majorities in the house and senate and a couple potential supreme court appointees during that president’s tenure does make me nervous… But, left-side or right-side, we have to admit the current way of the government is corrupt and needs changing.

My biggest fear now is that the Democratic party will try to fix the problem by throwing more government at it. The large size of the government is the problem; increasing the size will only increase the problem.

Anyway, I’m glad you found your way to my site… it’s comments like yours that may well encourage me to start updating again :)

    Any suggestions?

Nice blog site by the way - :)

I caught part of the Sara Moses interview today on Glenn Beck. I’m not a subscriber so can’t recapture the interview. Looked here (LOVE your blog, by the way), but your link to her interview isn’t attached (am I missing something?)

    Thx

  7. Joan Claro Says:

Is there a way I may obtain a printed transcript of the Sarah Moses interview?

  8. rick Says:

    Hey guys,

Okay, let me look into the Sarah Moses interview and see if I can obtain both audio and written transcripts. I wouldn’t mind having them myself, honestly.

Thank you for your patience, please hold.
